Rock County Line© Christopher Jones 2010

Iíll go walking that Rock County line
This was my fatherís
But itís not mine
Now itís a Walmart and a parking lot
The land is gone
Iím not sure what we got

Ellis Island and the railway west
Black earth homesteads in a row
Harvest plenty led to books and schools
Then the children rose to go

Iíll go walking that Rock County line
This was my motherís
But itís not mine
We once were farmers and now weíre not
The farms are gone
Iím not sure what we got

Football and cars were my lucky stars
Then the GM plant second shift
I hunted fished and raised a family
I guess youíd say I got my wish

So Iíll go walking that Rock County line
This was my fatherís
But itís not mine
Now itís a Walmart and a parking lot
The land is gone
Iím not sure what we got

I heard the doctor say Iíll soon be gone
It doesnít really matter why
Iím done with night shifts, done with grease and noise
Iíll soon belong to open sky.

So Iím out walking that Rock County line
This was my motherís
But itís not mine
We once were farmers and now weíre not
The farms are gone
Iím not sure what I got
